Imagine...

The world you live in is a village recovering from a 14 year civil war. Children grow up with limited educational opportunities. Census reports show us that five children have to share one photo copied book. Teachers are barely a lesson ahead of their students… the brutal war having robbed them of an education. This is the life of a child in many Liberian villages.

Loving through Literacy was born out of a deep concern for the children of Yekepa, Liberia.  Yekepa is a remote village at the base of the Nimba Mountains, an eight hour drive from the capital city of Monrovia.

Reading is Critical

Reading forms new thinking.
Reading will one day provide a way out of poverty for these children as they pursue a higher education.
Reading will recondition minds that have been scarred by the destructive acts of war.
Reading will open up their world and enable them to see the bigger picture of why they are here on earth.
Our hope is to have every child recieve the gift of reading. The expanded vision is to build the first ever children's library in the small village of Yekepa.  A place where every child is welcome.   A place where children can come and hold a REAL book – not a photo-copied version.  Teachers can come for workshops and check out reading resources.
We chose to start our program in Yekepa Liberia as it is the home of African Bible College. Local students have the incredible opportunity to attend this university in their hometown but will not be admitted if they do not have the skills.

Loving Through Literacy is passionate about ensuring a childs right to read.
